Colorado agriculture license plates now available

Denver— The Colorado Foundation for Agriculture (CFA) is announcing availability of new agriculture license plates approved last year by the Colorado Legislature. Beginning with 2001 vehicle registrations, Coloradoans can opt for the new license plates to show their support of the state agricultural sector.

Rocky Mountain Farmers Union (RMFU) is one of more than 25 agricultural organizations and agencies that support CFA educational activities. Proceeds for the license plates go to CFA to support agriculture education.

“As Americans become further removed from the farm, Farmers Union is pleased to promote this license plate to provide a high profile visual reminder of the importance of agriculture to Colorado,” said RMFU Education Director Andrea Clark.

The special agricultural plates use the same green and white, mountain format but have a farm scene with the logo “Agriculture Growing Your Future” in the center of the plate. According to CFA, the plates are designed to “reinforce our proud Colorado heritage and are a gentle reminder of the importance of agriculture to our lives.”

Those wishing to purchase the special promotional plates for their vehicles must make a minimum tax-deductible donation to CFA of $25. They will then receive a certificate to take to their local Department of Motor Vehicle office. There will be an additional $10 fee payable to the state of Colorado. Only vehicles weighing 16,000 pounds or less may use the plates.

CFA promotes agriculture throughout the state through educational programs and school curriculum. Some of the other programs it sponsors are Agriculture in the Classroom—a monthly publication for upper elementary age school children—and Project Food, Land & People—a set of curricula for pre-kindergarten through secondary school teachers aimed at educating students about agriculture and the environment.

For more information on the agriculture plates, contact RMFU at 800-373-7638 or CFA at 970-881-2902. More information on the plates can be obtained through CFA’s website: www.growingyourfuture.com.
