Farmers Union Mourns Passing of Senator Craig Thomas

DENVER – Rocky Mountain Farmers Union (RMFU) and National Farmers Union (NFU) join Wyoming and the nation in mourning the death of Wyoming Senator Craig Thomas. Sen. Thomas was a tireless advocate of America’s livestock producers during his 12 years in the U.S. Senate.

“Senator Thomas provided strong leadership in fighting for mandatory country-of-origin labeling and inclusion of a strong competition title in the farm bill,” said RMFU President Kent Peppler. “We have been honored to recognize Senator Thomas’ leadership with four Golden Triangle Awards, the highest honor presented by National Farmers Union, for his leadership on behalf of family farmers and ranchers in the United States Senate.”

In addition to his work on agricultural issues Sen. Thomas worked effectively to improve rural health care and other issues of importance to rural Wyoming and to family farmers and ranchers throughout the nation.

“America lost a true rural leader,” said NFU President Tom Buis. “We will miss the Senator’s quiet yet strong leadership on many issues important to rural America. He was a valued friend of America’s farmers and ranchers.”
