Reports To: Director of RMFU
Purpose of Position
Responsible for recruiting, retaining, and mobilizing RMFU members via local chapters in New Mexico and select areas of eastern and southern Colorado. Will serve as program lead for RMFU’s AgWell project focused on farmer mental health, well-being, and stress management. Responsible for AgWell’s programming, outreach, funding, grant management, and collaboration with like-minded organizations. **This is a high-travel position.**
SALARY RANGE: $51,000 – $61,000
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
MEMBERSHIP AND ORGANIZING RESPONSIBILITIES: (Southern CO/Northern NM)
Perform Membership & Field Organizing Tasks including:
- Recruiting, mobilizing, and retaining members.
- Planning, organizing, and executing educational, social, and legislative outreach events.
- Providing leadership development assistance for chapters and members, and county officers.
- Encourage collaboration with other agricultural organizations and other interested parties to sponsor local or county educational/social events.
- Represent RMFU by attending state and national events and tabling at key partner events.
Coordinate with Membership and Larger RMFU Team
- Work with membership team to maintain the necessary records and collect relevant member information.
- Develop local, regional, and statewide organizing strategies in cooperation with membership team staff.
- Work with RMFU, RMFUF, and FUSA staff on projects, events, and campaigs that further the cause of the parent RMFU organization.
AGWELL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead AgWell’s current programming while continuing to develop and expand programming:
- Present workshops and webinars, attend speaking engagements, and lead trainings for RMFU chapters, and partner organizations.
- Collaborate with the Membership Department to embed AgWell offerings into chapter events and assist in funding events related to AgWell’s mission.
- Become certified as a trainer with key partners (i.e. COMET, QPR) and lead train-the-trainer sessions as requested.
- Collect and document evidence-based research and best practices to drive future programming decision.
- Develop and expand new, data-driven and member-based programming.
- Coordinate with Partner Organizations, Agencies and Providers within AgWell:
- Hold and facilitate regular meetings to sustain a broad-based network.
- Assist in the pursuit of additional opportunities for AgWell programming.
- Promote our efforts and the impact we are creating locally and nationwide throughout our networks.
- Serve as AgWell administrator:
- Manage the AgWell budget.
- Reapply for WRASAP grants and related funding annually.
- Generate new and diverse revenue streams for AgWell.
- Maintain necessary documents and complete grant reporting.
- Work directly with the RMFU Director in concert with the RMFU CEO and other departments and program areas within RMFU, RMFUF, and FUSA:
- Identify member target populations and unique programmatic areas that will increase member activity.
- Work with staff to integrate efforts across the organization that are member-focused.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Duties
This position does not currently have supervisory duties.
Qualifications
- Located in or willing to relocate to southern or southeast Colorado or northern New Mexico.
- Have working knowledge of rural farm/ranch operations and other agriculture enterprises. First-hand agricultural experience is highly preferred.
- Experience in mental health training and/or education. A bachelor’s degree in education, agriculture, psychology or related field is preferred.
- Must be able to easily and effortlessly navigate both sides of the political spectrum and build positive relationships with all members, regardless of ideological differences
- Understanding of the mission and history of Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, community organizing, and membership development.
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated and independent worker.
- Strong oral and written communications skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively and creatively with diverse people and groups.
- Proven record of project management and completion.
- Web, media and social media experience is desired.
- Willing to do extensive travel throughout Colorado and New Mexico.
Working environment
Position requires extensive travel. Employee must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel by car and commercial airline as may be needed.
- This is a full-time, salary exempt position and may require evening and weekend hours.
- This is currently a grant funded position with guaranteed funding for one year with probable multi-year extensions.
- Position will require extensive time outdoors in all types of weather.
- Position requires the ability to sit for extended periods, to have extensive use of arms, legs, hands, and fingers, to talk, see and hear, and to have the capacity to lift and move up to thirty pounds.
Compensation
The position is full-time with compensation of $51,000-$61,000 commensurate with experience. A comprehensive benefits package is available which includes health, dental, vision and 401(k).
