Consumers deserve a choice.
Once again, the United States has announced an increase in imports of beef from Argentina. This imported meat may be blended with U.S. ground beef and sold without clear labeling of its origin.
We support consumers’ ability to choose lower-cost imported beef, but they should be able to make the decision themselves between imported and domestic beef. Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling (MCOOL) will allow of that.
With the US cattle herd at historic lows, and the outsized influence of consolidated meat packers blocking MCOOL, we call for immediate passage of the American Beef Labeling Act and the Country of Origin Labeling Enforcement Act of 2025. We urge consumers to contact their legislators and demand the right to know where their food comes from.
