Allyson “Al” Stone (she/her) has been Markets Manager for the Valley Roots Food Hub in Mosca, CO, for the past 5 years, working in the local food aggregation and distribution space, assisting with logistics, sales, & marketing. Just as mycelia are an underground web of connection, as Markets Manager at Valley Roots, she enjoys the relationships cultivated between our producer and customer network. Through Valley Roots, customers can receive upwards of 100+ producers all on one invoice, and producers can focus on what they do best while our team takes on transportation and logistics.
Al believes that the more we know our farmers and ranchers, the better we know the stories of the food on our plates. She was vegan/vegetarian for nearly a decade, and after an experience with butchering a deer, she is now an avid eater and believer in meat raised with integrity. Supporting our local food economy is good not only for the health of our planet but also for our communities.
Al has garnered experience on a small farm in Eugene, OR, through WWOOF-USA, where she volunteered with school gardens and farm-to-school organizations, and revamped the composting system at her local community garden.
Through a 2-year service term with AmeriCorps, engaging with youth after-school programs and school garden education, Al made her way to the San Luis Valley, where she has called home for the past 7 years. She serves as a board member for San Luis Valley Pride, an advisory board member for the Valley Educational Gardens Initiative and hosts a monthly story slam at her local book cooperative. Al received a B.S. in Science, Technology, and Culture from Georgia Institute of Technology. A philosophy of food course sparked her trajectory in working in local food systems.
In her spare time, you can find her at the local potluck, deep in an enjoyable book, performing poetry or oral stories, thrifting, creating collages, turning two wheels on some pavement, or hiking with her pup Elio.
