Cloture Motion Rejected!

FARM BILL UPDATE

Date: December 19, 2001 1:30 PM

RE: Third vote to invoke cloture on the farm bill

VOTE: The third cloture vote on the farm bill was held today. The vote was the last chance for the Senate to finish a farm bill this year. It would limit the time of debate and the amendments that could be offered, requiring that each amendment be “germane” (relevant) to the bill. The cloture vote required 60 votes to pass.

RMFU POSITION: RMFU supported cloture because it could have brought finality to the farm bill.

RESULT: Cloture Motion Rejected

NOTE: Because the vote was rejected, the Senate will not be able to finish a farm bill this year.

VOTE TALLY: (As before, Sen. Daschle voted against the bill, giving him the right to call for a re-vote at a later time.)
