Rocky Mountain Farmers Union (RMFU) is a grassroots organization dedicated to supporting and advocating for family farmers, ranchers, agricultural workers, and rural communities in Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming. Founded in 1907, RMFU has a long history of promoting sustainable agriculture, advocating for fair farm policies, and fostering strong rural communities.
Independent Contractor: Eastern Colorado Community Event Organizer

Location: Eastern Colorado (specific locations to be determined)
Description: RMFU is seeking a creative and community-based individual to serve as an Eastern Colorado Community Event Organizer contractor. The successful candidate will be responsible for organizing and overseeing events across Eastern Colorado. This position requires a deep understanding of rural communities, strong community organizing skills, and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Organize and oversee events across Eastern Colorado.
- Possess a deep understanding of rural communities in the target areas and have established connections with people working in agriculture in Eastern Colorado.
- Identify and address issues facing farmers and rural residents in the target areas.
- Create engaging and community-building events that are well attended.
- Invest time in promoting events by establishing strong connections and distributing printed flyers in the community, and work with RMFU communications to promote on social media and through email list serves.
- Develop strategies to promote active engagement and participation at events.
- Collaborate with local partners and stakeholders to maximize the impact of events.
- Maintain accurate records of event planning and outcomes.
- Represent the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union in a professional manner at all times.
Qualifications:
- Solid understanding of rural areas and the issues facing rural communities.
- Experience in community organizing, with a track record of successful events.
- Strong networking and relationship-building skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Creative thinker with the ability to generate innovative event ideas.
- Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
- Familiarity with the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union and its mission is preferred.
Compensation: This is a contract position that will pay by the event at a negotiated price based on an approved plan. There is a total of $6,000 allocated to this work that should be completed between upon hiring through November 1st, 2024.
