What:
Water Supply Workshop with presentations from Dave Kanzer from the Colorado River District, Greg Peterson and Phil Brink from the Colorado Ag. Water Alliance, and Gretchen Ranke from the Mancos Conservation District. Presentations will explore how to increase the supply of water coming from our watersheds and look at projects that are successfully reducing the consumptive use of ag water in Colorado.
Who:Collaborating organizations:
Colorado Ag Water Alliance Delta County Conservation District Why: Environmental and human-influenced forces are impacting water supply across our watershed and the throughout the CO River Basin. Some of these issues, like dust on snow, forest management, and soil moisture can be mitigated or understood better to improve forecasts, runoff timing, and in some cases, the overall water supply. Technology like cloud seeding may also improve snowpack and increase water yields. Meanwhile, there is also important work happening around the state to reduce the consumptive use of water on farms and ranches in order to ensure streamflow to the lower basin. We’ll hear about some of the work and funding going into those projects.
