Jesús Flores

Jesús Flores is a seasoned agricultural leader and advocate for sustainable farming and community empowerment. Originally from a rural community in the municipality of Charcas, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, Jesús developed a deep-rooted connection to the land at an early age. Taught by his father to plant and cultivate organic food—both irrigated and rain-fed—by the time he was three years old, Jesús’s foundation in agriculture was grounded in tradition, resilience, and a profound respect for nature.

His early education was completed under challenging conditions, studying primary and secondary school through a black-and-white television. At 16, Jesús moved to the city of Charcas to pursue a technical career, and upon graduating, he dedicated himself to organizing and teaching literacy programs for adults in underserved communities.

In 2004, Jesús and his family immigrated to the San Luis Valley in Colorado, where he has since worked extensively in agriculture across various ranches. His dedication and expertise in organic farming led to a significant milestone in 2024, when he was appointed Manager of Rio Grande Farm Park in Alamosa, Colorado. Under his leadership, the farm continues to thrive as a culturally rich and sustainable hub, where producers from Guatemala, Mexico, and local San Luis Valley communities grow organic food and build economic opportunities.

In 2022, Jesús became an active member of the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union (RMFU), through which he has participated in numerous conferences and advocacy efforts throughout Colorado. His involvement reflects his commitment to building stronger, more inclusive agricultural systems and supporting the voices of immigrant and Indigenous farmers.

Jesús Flores continues to live his passion daily—growing organic food, strengthening community bonds, and mentoring others. He remains deeply grateful for the people and opportunities that have supported his journey and is proud to contribute to the vitality and sustainability of food systems in the San Luis Valley and beyond.
