Jonathan Cable

Jonathan Cable is a Master’s student of Agricultural Education at Colorado State University and works as a College of Agricultural Sciences Graduate Fellow to strengthen stakeholder connections between higher education and rural Colorado. A passionate Aggie, Jonathan believes that the future of agriculture requires holistic investment into rural communities, the next generation, and tackling wicked issues through intentional conversations. Growing up in rural Morgan County, Colorado, Jonathan found his passions for agriculture, service, and advocacy through 4-H programs and hands-on experiences around his hometown of Brush. Although he didn’t grow up on a farming operation, his time in 4-H grew his agency and empowerment to find his voice as a young person who cared greatly about agriculture and his rural community.

Jonathan has worked as a research assistant for CSU Extension, the CSU Center for Public Deliberation and the University of Colorado-Denver’s University Technical Assistant Program. With skills in public deliberation and technical community planning and design, Jonathan continues to pursue new ways to support and inspire the next generation of agricultural and rural leaders to create a more inclusive and sustainable industry and world.

Jonathan graduated from CSU in 2022 with a B.S. in Landscape Architecture receiving the 2022 Colorado ASLA Student Honor Award. His diverse educational experiences have prompted him to explore the intersections of community development, rural resilience, and agricultural literacy. Jonathan was recently named the 2024 Colorado Leaders In Agriculture Rising Star by the Denver Business Journal.

After graduating with his Master’s Degree this summer, he plans to pursue a government position to support rural development—requiring a strong toolkit of communication, advocacy, and collaboration skills. In addition to these skills which are being strengthened by his master’s degree experiences, he looks forward to his time as an RMFU Fellow to grow his professional network by interacting with unique perspectives across agricultural and rural policy.
