Meet Our FLSP Recipients: Ulla Merz

Who are you? Please describe your operation. 

Bookcliff Farms owns and manages 40 acres of vineyards growing 14 different wine grape varieties. Bookcliff Farms has been in business since 1996 

Why did you apply for the FLSP grant? 

For the past four years the farms profits have been shrinking to almost 0% as labor costs, the largest expense of the farming operation, have increased. 

How does receiving this grant impact you and your operation? 

As the grant will be covering part of the labor cost over the next two years, savings can go towards vine disease management in the vineyards and improving labor conditions for the workers. 

How did RMFU help you in the process? 

RMFU reviewed Bookcliff Farms’ FLSP grant application and provided valuable feedback. RMFU also provided a letter of support.

I am grateful for the financial support which will improve the health of the business and the health of the vineyards.
