Denver, Colo. – Rocky Mountains Farmers Union (RMFU) is proud to announce that a delegation of 15 members plan to attend the National Farmers Union (NFU) convention to be held Mar. 3-6, in Denver, Colo. This is the 104th annual convention for the national family farmer organization and is back again in Denver after a 26 years. The theme is “Fuels from the Farm – Our Nation’s Future.” Family farmers and ranchers from across the nation will gather to set the policy that will serve as the organization’s voice for the future.

This year’s RMFU delegates include: Marty Brophy, Eckley, Colo.; Cleta Felzien, Limon, Colo.; Michael Gardner, Pine Bluffs, Wyo.; Greg Gossett, Portales, N.M.; Kathleen Kelley, Meeker, Colo.; Jan Kochis, Matheson, Colo.; Barb Marty, Henderson, Colo.; Roland Naibauer, Kersey, Colo.; Kent Peppler, Platteville, Colo.; Charles Petty, Clovis, N.M.; Marvin Schmidt, Riverton, Wyo.; Armando Valdez, Ft. Collins, Colo.; Mark Waltermire, Crawford, Colo.; and Richard Wolf, Ault, Colo.

“The National Farmers Union convention is a time for members to form the direction for our organization and to encourage each other during this difficult time in rural America following natural disasters, low commodity prices and higher fuel costs,” said RMFU President John Stencel. “I am thrilled to have such a great delegation attend from the Rocky Mountain region.”

The organization’s 104th convention is scheduled to include appearances from former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, former Sen. John Edwards and Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer.

New NFU leaders will be elected at the convention and members will decide on 2006 policy objectives. The policy positions adopted by Farmers Union members will be used to set the organization’s legislative priorities in the year ahead. Members will also participate in workshops and breakout sessions about renewable energy, the new farm bill, trade and consumer-producer cooperation. Entertainment is also scheduled.

National Farmers Union is a general farm organization representing nearly 300,000 family farmers and ranchers nationwide. NFU serves its membership through educational opportunities, support for farmer-owned cooperatives and legislative representation.
