Rocky Mountain Farmers Union is a grassroots family farm and ranch organization. That is the statement at the start of our mission and vision statement and one that I take very seriously in my role as President. The grassroots of our organization is our members, and the start of the process that drives what we do at RMFU is in county meetings. At these county meetings members come together, learn what is new at RMFU, elect chapter leadership, recap the past year, discuss policy, and elect delegates to take that discussion to the RMFU Annual Convention.
I can’t wait to get to Colorado Springs for our convention. It is great to reconnect with old friends and make new ones every year. It’s been quite a few years since we have been south for our convention, and along with the location change, our staff has spent many hours coming up with new and exciting topics and speakers. We also have some exciting business updates from FUSA that will be announced. The Gala fundraiser for the Foundation will be exciting, with a change to a Casino Night, promising lots of fun! Also new this year is Coffee with the President, a chance to ask me all your questions, anything from what I do as President to why RMFU and FUSA do certain things to what I see coming up over the next year.
This fall, I had the pleasure of attending several county meetings and talking with our members who can’t make it to convention. Although I would prefer to be at every county meeting, the reality of us being a three-state organization is that the distance between chapters is huge. From our most southern chapter in Quay County, New Mexico, to our most northern (and our newest!) chapter in the Big Horn mountains of Wyoming is about a twelve-hour, 800-mile journey. I am trying to get to every chapter, so don’t be surprised if I join our dedicated membership staff at one of your county meetings, and feel free to ask me questions when you see me.
I will hopefully see you in Colorado Springs very soon!
