RMFU Statement on Budget Reconciliation Bill

Rocky Mountain Farmers Union continues to closely monitor the federal budget reconciliation bill as it advances from the Senate back to the House. We are working with our partners to ensure that the voices of family farmers, ranchers, and rural communities are heard throughout this process.

“We appreciate the efforts to strengthen the farm safety net and invest in critical federal programs that support the producers we represent,” said Chad Franke, President of RMFU. “However, we are deeply concerned about provisions in the bill that could negatively impact our members and rural communities, particularly cuts to SNAP and Medicaid, which are vital to the well-being and resilience of these communities,” Franke continued.

Additionally, we are concerned that incorporating key agricultural provisions into this reconciliation bill may reduce the urgency among lawmakers to pass a comprehensive Farm Bill in 2025. Delaying or weakening the next Farm Bill would have long-term consequences for the farmers, ranchers, and rural communities who depend on strong, stable agricultural policy.

Rocky Mountain Farmers Union remains committed to advocating for a robust, bipartisan Farm Bill that meets the needs of family agriculture and rural America.
