(DENVER, CO) – Rocky Mountain Farmers Union supports Governor Mark Gordon’s request for an emergency declaration for ranchers in Wyoming. Governor Gordon submitted a letter to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack seeking the declaration, which will release additional resources through existing programs.
“This winter has been a struggle for producers in Wyoming,” says RMFU President Chad Franke, a resident of rural Lander. “Severe snowstorms came early and often, keeping roads closed and limiting access to grazing, forcing ranchers to feed additional hay to cattle. Especially in light of the high cost of feed this year, we ask for this declaration to be enacted immediately to help assist our members and all producers trying to recover from a difficult winter.”
