Membership and Organizational Development Director

The Membership and Organizational Development Director manages a small team of full-time and part-time Membership Coordinators and Field Representatives. This is a high travel position, requiring significant time in the field with members and chapters, and occasional national travel for advocacy or educational events. We are looking for someone who is excited to tackle the evolving challenges of membership and organizing and can initiate new strategies for reaching perspective members and building networks in real-life and digital spaces.

The position is full-time with compensation commensurate with experience. A comprehensive benefits package is available which includes health, dental, vision, and 401k.

Membership and Organizational Development Director

Rural Peer Assistant Network (RPAN) Associate Director

1. General Information

Division: Rocky Mountain Farmers Union (RMFU)

Reports To: RMFU Director of External Affairs

2. Purpose of Position

The Associate Director of the Rural Peer Assistance Network (RPAN) will lead RPAN and ensure that it is an effective program in helping farmers, ranchers and rural residents:

  • Identify and recognize the signs and impacts of stress including substance use.
  • Learn techniques to manage stress and suicide intervention.
  • Become a Peer Listener in their communities and connect their neighbors to available resources.

In addition, the Associate Director will offer a support network for Peer Listeners and manage this collaborative program of agencies, organizations and providers across WY, CO and NM.

3. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Lead the RPAN Team

  • Engage additional workshop instructors
  • Interface with a third-party evaluator
  • Maintain necessary documents and assist in the preparation of grant reports
  • Work with RMFU staff for the integration of RPAN programming

Finalize the RPAN Curriculum

  • Develop virtual training modules
  • Collect and document evidence-based research and best practices
  • Assist with web-based resource development and other social media outreach

Launch RPAN Programming

  • Deliver workshops and trainings
  • Manage the Peer Listener support system

Coordinate with Partner Organizations, Agencies and Providers within RPAN

  • Hold and facilitate regular meetings to sustain a broad-based network
  • Assist in the pursuit of additional opportunities for RPAN programming
  • Promote our efforts and the impact we are creating

4. Supervisory Duties

Oversee contract positions including workshop instructors, evaluators and other technical support positions.

5. Qualifications

  • Have an understanding and appreciation for rural farm/ranch operations and other agriculture enterprises.
  • Experience in mental health training and/or education. A Bachelor’s Degree in education, agriculture, psychology or related field is preferred but not essential.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and independent worker.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and creatively with diverse people and groups.
  • Proven record of project management and completion.
  • Web, media and social media experience is important.

6. Working environment/physical activities

  • Position requires some travel. Employee must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel by car and commercial airline as may be needed.
  • This is an exempt position and may require evening and weekend hours.
  • This is currently a grant funded position.
  • Position requires the ability to sit for extended periods, to have extensive use of arms, legs, hands and fingers, to talk, see and hear and to have the capacity to lift of move up to thirty pounds.
